Help? Exma advice?

I saw my doctor today for some of the problems I had on my face, who said that I suffer from psoriasis, and fungal infection Exma, I have a shampoo, cream and tablets for that, and the doctor said that next week may need for steroids and antibiotics to fight, why do I steroids for that? Is what I can do to contol Exma? I badly and very bad, I'm using creams like E45, but nothing seems to calm down.
